No Quilt is Complete Until the Cat Lays on It!

Finally, a new baby back home in Charleston WV and me with my unfinished baby quilt top from long ago. The baby quilt is now quilted, bound and complete.  BTW, it is truly complete since kitty has blessed it by laying on it while I was taking photos. This quilt came together beautifully and it was really fun to quilt the spirals on the elephants in the centers of the flowers. Time to pack it up and send it to its new owner and end user.  Happy Monday!

Heather Ross Mendocino Quilt, Here I Come!

There is nothing more fun than planning your next quilt! I have been buying the long out of print and hard to find Heather Ross Mendocino fabric for this next quilt, and now it's time to cut and piece everything.  I spent months accumulating fat quarters or more of every print in the set, which was a considerable feat.  Many thanks to everyone who sold me a precious piece from their stash, I really appreciate it. After a lot of thought, I have decided to use Elizabeth Hartmann's Honey Quilt Top pattern from her book Modern Patchwork . She has many versions of this honey quilt top on her blog Oh Fransson! that you can check out, they are wonderful.  I think this pattern will show off the Mendocino fabrics really well since the pieces are not too large and not too small. New Large Rosette Underway

After looking at the large rosettes for this project, I decided that one of them did not go well with the others. My black and pink attempt to do an outer flower ring was a little bit blah compared to its three siblings so I ripped off the outer ring in preparation for using this as one of my smaller rosettes in the quilt. Then it was time to find some new Liberty Tana Lawn prints for the large rosette, so I went for the flowers! There are some sailboats and rabbits thrown in there for good measure. The rabbits are the small hexagon in the first ring of stars. Here is the new large rosette in progress. As always, the center of the rosette consists of the little creepy Cranford faces. I think I have just enough of this fabric to use in all of my rosettes, then it will be gone for good. Happy quilting! Susan
