See Susan Quilt

I am having the best time taking a zillion small pieces of fabric and making the flower blocks for my baby quilt. The elephants in the center of the flower are the best. There are seven full flowers like the one pictured and four half flowers for the top and bottom edges of the quilt. This has been fun - I am doing many Y-seams on my Bernina for these flower blocks, and the points of the petals have come out quite crisp. The colors are working out great, I really like the Moda Sunkissed fabric line. The light grey surrounding the flowers is the Misty Grey solid from Moda, it was a bit challenging to find this solid shade online.  And the elephants speak for themselves, they are too fun. Well, Ginger's quilt is back in Colorado, beautifully quilted and bound by Jennet. Kitty approves of the finished product, so much so that he made it his favorite sleeping spot on Friday afternoon. Here is kitty having a rest on Ginger's quilt while it was laying across the back of the couch ... I don't know what it is about Maine Coon cats, but they are always ready for an impromptu photo shoot! This quilt looks so much prettier with the texture added by the batting and the quilting pattern, the extra dimension took me by surprise!  Combine that texture with such fabulous fabrics and you really get the 'wow' factor.  Here's a look at the front and the back, along with my husband's tennis shoes as he is heading out for a run.  Maybe Ginger won't like this quilt and will ask me to take it back... not! One of the best things about completing a quilt is selecting and starting your next quilt! I have decided to make a baby quilt next.  I plan to quilt and finish this little guy myself as it will be about 3 feet square when it is done. I am not even sure who I will give this quilt to, but I betcha someone who is expecting will turn up soon.  I am using the large Japanese elephant fabric in grey for the centers of the patterns (the pattern is like a lot of flowers) and the gorgeous Moda Sunkissed fabrics in pinks, greys, greens, oranges and yellows.  Here's a look at my flower petal pieces.  I will cut the background pieces in the next few days but they will be pretty boring - they are all solid colors!  More later! Ginger's beautiful quilt has been pieced and will be heading out to get quilted tomorrow. The quilt top is made of Australian aboriginal prints combined with a forest green Echino solid. The binding will be a black and white dot.  I can't wait to see the finished product! Here's a sneak peek at the quilt top after the prints had all been put together. It is missing the green edge and the top/bottom strips with the lighter colors. Happy quilting! Susan

It's always nice to have a finished quilt hanging around for a few days. This most recent project is a quilt for my granddaughter who turns 3 this week. I used the Heather Ross Far Far Away 2 fabric from Fabricworm and the Chasing Cottons Sand Castle quilt pattern to make a wonderful quilt for her bed. Since my Bernina and I aren't the best at quilting large items, I sent the quilt out for custom longarm quilting from Icepurplepenguin , and Jennet did a stunning job making everything work together. The little hearts in the quilting pattern are just wonderful. Here is a picture of the entire quilt laying in the entry with me looking down from the stairs.
